Summary

Under limited supervision performs intermediate to advanced accounting functions related to tax specifications. Employees in this job class perform as a lead by assigning work and providing guidance to lower level associates.  This job class requires knowledge of intermediate accounting and/or tax principals of which would be derived from several years of experience as an Experienced Associate and the ability to assign work, manage progress and meet deadlines. The Supervisor is responsible for utilizing research skills, applying tax foundational knowledge to understand potential tax issues, gathering client information necessary for filing, participating in tax planning, recognizing and communicating potential risks, preparing tax accrual workpapers and working with tax software applications to complete tax returns for review.

Core Responsibilities

  • Leading Managing and Holding People Accountable (LMA)
  • Learn and begin to apply growth process (participates in assigned RC,, pipeline support, COPs, etc.)
  • Supervises the engagement (job) project management, billing, ensures QC (technical) standards
  • Takes care of the client (meets deadlines, timely communication)
  • Develops engagement team (prepares coordinators and associates for the next level)

Essential Functions

  • Prepare business and individual returns
  • Research tax issues
  • Recognize potential problems within engagements and discuss these with the manager or partner
  • Prepare tax projections
  • Prepare tax planning assignments
  • Prepare other tax consulting projects, as needed
  • Continue developing technical skills with emphasis on developing an area of expertise
  • Communicate with supervisor regarding work-loads and project status
  • Assist on other non-tax work in offseason such as financial statement compilations, reviews, and audits

Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes. Full management responsibilities for exempt and non-exempt staff within department and/or specified work group.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a business office environment with limited privacy and exposure to general office environment noise from others conducting business
  • Overnight travel is required approximately 10% of time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3-4 years of tax experience in public accounting is required
  • Bachelor’s in accounting required, Masters in Tax preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting including bookkeeping and journal entry preparation required
  • Experience with serving the cannabis industry preferred
  • CPA License or working towards obtaining CPA license is a plus
  • Prior basic supervisory experience preferred
  • Prior experience preparing and reviewing of tax provisions preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA Proficient in all tax compliance process software including GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, BNA Depreciation Software, or comparable programs and standard tax workpapers
  • Knowledge of CCH Prosystem is preferred
